Unfailing Love

Psalms 33:22 (NLT) – “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.”

The God of the universe is the embodiment of love (1 John 4:16; 1 John 4:8 – NLT). His awesome love is beyond comprehension and is unwavering. The light and goodness of God stands out in sharp contrast to the darkness we encounter in this world. When we turn on the local evening news or read the international headlines, we are bombarded with reminders of all the malevolence and chaos that exists in the form of crime, war, murder, hatred, and conflict throughout the earth. Thankfully, the love of God is not some static, theoretical concept we only read about in the pages of the Bible. The tender affection, love and kindness of God are expressed every day in His actions toward mankind. God’s love is limitless, reliable, never exhausted, unshakable, enduring, and constant. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible illustrates the extent of God’s immeasurable love and faithfulness toward every living being. From the moment of conception God lovingly watches over and cares for us, and has created our bodies “so wonderfully complex” that science has yet to unravel all the mysteries of the human body (NLT – Psalms 139:14-16). God is omnipresent, so no matter what we do or where we go, we are never far from God’s comforting presence. Romans 8:38 (NLT) tells us that “nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” The Bible repeatedly reminds us that the love of God is unfailing. Psalms 36:7 says, “How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.”

The greatest example of His unfailing love was “sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8 – NLT). The love of God is all encompassing, covering over our sins and transgressions and reconciling us to Him. God does not abandon us when we fall, are vulnerable and weak, or riddled with fears and doubts. God protects us by guiding us through painful circumstances, and intently listens to our prayers. As Psalms 17:6-7 (NLT) says “I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies.” God is a loving and wonderful Heavenly Father, and there is never a time we cannot call out “Abba, Father” and ask God to speak into our hearts or bring healing in our lives (Romans 8:14-16 – NLT). During this Christmas season, whether it is in corporate worship or in quiet communion with God, meditating on the unfailing love of God builds our faith and draws us even closer to Jesus (Psalm 48:9).
